Down for Definition?

For many naturals, the goal of definition is but a pipe dream. For the longest time it seemed like those perfectly curled and coiled spirals belonged to those goddesses of YouTube, as if their bomb contour all day err’ day was not enough. For those not in the loop (see what I did there XD), the term ‘definition’ describes curls that are frizz-free and form clearly visible curls or coils.

I love my ‘fro in its natural untamed state, and it suits my hectic schedule to leave it to roam the plains wild and free i.e. I am a procrastinator of note, especially when it comes to washday XD However, I must admit that the extra time spent on doing the LOC method does pay off later in the week when you’ve still got decent curls and not crinkly ‘it used to be a curl’ strands to style for the day. Personally I found it very difficult to get any definition to last longer than 3 days, even with the LOC method. Then I visited the Sweet Penny store…

*angelic chorus*

See that not-so-little baby in the bottom left corner? That’s the monster jar of Aunt Jackie’s Don’t Shrink Flaxseed Elongating Curling Gel- and it is a GAMECHANGER. For R47.99 you get 426ml of pure unadulterated definition in no uncertain terms. This was my routine:

LIQUID: Dr Miracles CurlCare Curl Defining Leave-In Conditioner

OIL: Organic shea butter and Jamaican Black Castor Oil

GEL: *this is what you came for* Aunt Jackie’s Don’t Shrink Flaxseed Elongating Curling Gel 😉

Straight to the results:

Mind the dog who refused to let me take a selfie alone XD

That was day 1 hair, very clearly defined and not crunchy or flaky. Sit down for the next one- day 3 hair:

After 2 consecutive jogging days!

It’s still defined enough to leave loose and not scare small children :O Even after working out, the gel was consistent and never felt tacky or looked greasy. My curls looked shiny and nourished, as I suspect the gel helped to lock in the shea butter goodness better than any cream has before. The gel itself has quite impressive ingredients, enriched with flaxseed and wheat protein as well as having none of those unwanted sulphates and parabens.

Aunt Jackie’s has created another wonder to help bridge the gap between us and the YouTubers 😉 We have reached the promised land of that defined wash and go, a land flowing with Aunt Jackie’s gel and curling custard #jokes #butseriously #thisstuffisamazeballs #AMAZEBALLS

I’d love to hear your experiences, with this product or the one that works for you definition-wise 🙂 Sound off on any of the social media platforms, I love a good hair chat, even if you just want to know my suppliers 😀 XD

K bye

Thanx for sharing. This aunt Jackie’s flax seed gel does not flake(leave white stuff on hair when dry)?

  2. seangoesnatural · July 26, 2016

    Hi there 🙂

With the way I’m using it now I don’t experience any flaking until maybe the day before my washday when my hair is dirty and needs a wash anyway ‘:) Even then the flakes are minimal and focused on the ends of my hair so it’s easy to disguise for a day 🙂

I can’t be sure how it would react in combination with products other than the ones I’ve tried because I know gels tend to create that white stuff when the products don’t mesh well together🙈 A good check though is to mix a little together in your palm and see if they blend or start creating white residue 🙂

Even the gel on its own does not flake as I use it alone if I’m too lazy to LOC properly 🙈

    Thanks for reading 🙂

      Hi 🙂

Thank you 😀 I’m really impressed by what I’ve tried thus far, and they’re very reasonably priced- which is a refreshing change from the usual prices we curly girls have to pay for products “:D
