Bentonite= Beyoncé-nite?

This past week I attempted the bentonite clay treatment for many deep and well-considered reasons, & not because I happened across it while trawling the health food aisle of Dischem. To be clear, I was in that aisle looking for stuff to feed my ‘fro, not me. My love for Cheese Curls is the love that dares speak its name, and no amount of cheesy rice cakes can come in between that XD I’d seen bentonite clay being mentioned on the Cape Town Naturals and South African Naturals Facebook groups and figured now was as good a time as any to try it out. Also it was cheap so why not? 😀 #studentlife #blesserneeded #forhairproducts

After a quick Google, I decided to go with this recipe:

Personally the oil amounts were perfect, but the water+ACV was defs not enough to get a usable texture. I washed my hair with Organics “all-of-the-sulphates-shampoo”, because of major product build-up #thestruggle. Then the clay went on… and all the doubts came with! I had to keep adding water to get a decent spreadable consistency and when I did manage to get it through my hair it felt rough and precisely what you imagine wet cement in your hair to feel like. The whole time I was like, “Guys, we’ve made a mistake. A terrible mistake. The naturals have gone too far, TOO FAR I SAY.”

BUT I paid for it so I persevered XD I wrapped my clay-covered hair in a plastic bag for 20 minutes, shaking my head at the lengths a naturalista will go to for the hurr. Twenty minutes later I helped myself to a big ole slice of humble pie AND AMAZING HAIR! Rinsing away the clay revealed absolutely crazy defined curls considering not a drop of conditioner went on! I did a quick condition, according to the instructions from the recipe and the results:

The definition! The conditioner saved! The volume!

I am officially a fan of bentonite clay, or as I refer to it, Beyoncé-nite clay.

Except please rinse it ALL OUT. Don’t be like me and ruin everyone’s clothes with dry bentonite dandruff. Tbh I felt like they should have thanked me for bestowing a small portion of this gift to them, but you just can’t reason with some people. #notmyfault #iamsashafierce

K bye

    Hi 🙂

    It really wasn’t expensive, considering the prices we pay for stuff like conditioner 😙 Don’t quote me on this but I think it was around R15-R30 at most 🐥 Let me know how it turns out 😉💁🏽

    This is amazing, and the oomph is awesome. I’m using that mix of placenta and bergomotessence to grow it faster but it also helps with shine. I;m so gonna try this mask!
